The 1st day of December World AIDS Day

The 1st day of December is an International day of struggle with AIDS. On this day all humanity remember what a serious threat to human life has this global problem. The first time this was mentioned on the 1st of December, 1988. This decision was made at the international meeting of health ministers, which discussed the need for exchange the information on HIV and AIDS. The idea of World AIDS Day was supported by representatives of 140 countries.

Today the efforts of many countries directed to prevent the spread of this disease. The events of World AIDS Day traditionally held the symbol of the day - Red Ribbon. This symbol created the artist Frank Moore. In the 1991 this symbol was used for the first time during the celebration of World AIDS Day. Everyone who wears the Red Ribbon on the 1st of December expresses his hope for the future without AIDS.
Each year World AIDS Day is held under the different slogans. The slogans reflect the already existed pressing problems. The theme of World AIDS Day on the 2013 was “On the way to the purpose of”zero” - zero number of new infections, zero discrimination and zero deaths related to AIDS. The United Nations project “On the way to the purpose of”zero” will continue till 2015.
