It is already past 70 years after the Day of liberation of Ukraine from the German-fascist occupants. The most important battles of the Second World War 1941–1945 were on the territory of our native country. The first Ukrainian cities were released from the German- fascist invaders on the beginning of winter 1942. The final liberation of Ukraine began from the Kursk battle in summer 1943, and the definitive victory was after the Carpathians’ operation which was started on the 9th of September, 1944. Uzhhorod was set free on the 27th of October, 1944, and then the Soviet forces came to the borders of our country on the 28th of October.
About 3 millions of Soviet soldiers were killed in the Second World War; over 2 million of Ukrainian people were taken to the Germany for the forced labour during the occupation. Over the 700 cities and 28 000 villages were destroyed; about 10 million of people lost their homes; over 16 000 industrial enterprises were demolished.
In this day we traditionally do homage to the warriors, who have died in the battles for the liberation of Ukraine, do honour to the inhabitants of the country, who have suffered from the fascists invaders. We also join to the honouring.
Happy Liberation Day of Ukraine!
